An area full of movement

The physical location of the Innovation District

The Breda Innovation District consists of six strategic sub-areas. Together, they form a compact urban area in which mixed-use development and proximity reinforce each other.

In addition, there are also several specific physical anchor points with a distinctive role. The B’Robotics Campus will become a hotspot for experiments, demonstrations and knowledge sharing around robotics and AI. B’WISE and B’GAME help start-ups and scale-ups grow through coaching, office space and a strong network. And at the Triple O Campus, digital and creative businesses, education and talent come together.

A spacious base

Six areas spread across Breda together form the Innovation District: Havenkwartier, ’t Zoet, the Station Area, the Slingerweg Area, Chassékwartier and the education zone with the campuses of Avans, BUas and Curio.

Each area has its own character and function. Yet together they form one connected whole where working, learning, living and meeting come together.

The six sub-areas

The Harbour Quarter is already a place for cultural and creative enterprise. With STEK and Pier15, there is room for makers, artists and creative businesses. This development is taking further shape, including with Backer+Rueb. The strength of this area lies above all in the combination of making, experimentation and culture, alongside an urban mix of living, working and meeting.

The building blocks of Breda

Breda has everything it needs to grow into a place where innovation is part of its DNA. The city is compact and easy to reach, learning and meeting increasingly overlap, and businesses, education and talent connect easily here. There is also plenty of room to experiment.

The city has a strong and innovative business community, demonstrating that Breda is fertile ground for innovation. On the one hand, there are international companies such as CM.com and Royal Cosun, and on the other, scale-ups such as NoWasteArmy and U-Boat Worx.

Breda also has a lot to offer when it comes to talent. Avans, BUas and Curio educate thousands of students every year. B’WISE, B’GAME and B’Robotics are leading the way in startups and games, and in robotics and AI. They build networks, test ideas and give innovations room to grow.

We need to garden, not draw.

How do you create an area where innovation can genuinely emerge? Urban planner Daan Zandbelt talks about the development of the Slingerweg area and why space, interaction and a mix of functions are essential to it.
