What does this cluster look like?

Robotics & AI brings together companies and knowledge organisations that develop and apply intelligent robotic systems. Think of industrial robots, drones, smart production lines and logistics automation. AI is making robots increasingly intelligent, flexible and autonomous, for example through image recognition, autonomous navigation and predictive maintenance. Sensor technology, embedded systems and machine learning also play an important role.

  • $ 500+ billion expected growth by 2032
  • 960 robotics-related companies in Breda
  • 6,330 employees within this cluster in Breda
  • € 748 million estimated value of this cluster

The importance of this cluster

Robotics can offer a groundbreaking solution to staff shortages in healthcare, industry, logistics, retail and agriculture, among other sectors. Breda-based technology companies are helping regional and international businesses work faster and more sustainably. As a result, Robotics & AI has the potential to become an important driver of economic growth.

Why Breda?

Breda has a growing network of companies involved in robotics and automation. At the same time, Avans, Curio and BUas provide technical and creative talent. Breda is also located in the heart of a region where robotics can be applied directly. Industry, logistics, agri-food and healthcare offer plenty of challenges where new technology can be tested and implemented.

What saves lives in the petrochemical industry today could also increase labour productivity in other sectors tomorrow.

Application in other sectors

Robotics & AI only truly deliver value when the technology is applied to real-world challenges. Breda therefore focuses not solely on developing robots and AI, but on the sectors where this technology can make a difference.

In industry and logistics, robots and smart systems can help make processes more efficient and safer. In healthcare, they can support activities such as monitoring, diagnostics and physical tasks. In agri-food, there are opportunities for automated processes and precision applications. Defence and mobility also require increasingly autonomous systems.

Smart robots, smart region

Robotics offers major opportunities for Breda and the region. According to Chantall van Spaendonck, innovation is not just about technology, but above all about strong connections between businesses, education and government. The Innovation District can bring these parties together and thereby accelerate progress.Read more

Together with Games & Creative Technology

Robotics & AI, together with Games & Creative Technology, forms a major focal point within Breda’s economy. The combination of technology and creativity offers twice as many opportunities to develop new applications. Together, the two clusters account for approximately 29% of all TT&C companies in Breda and 44% of employment within TT&C. This represents an added value of around €996 million.
